HOSPITALS & HEALTHCARE SPACES

Acoustic wood panels engineered for healing environments.

Sound shapes the patient experience. In healthcare settings, excessive noise elevates stress, disrupts sleep, and interferes with communication between caregivers and families. Studies consistently link hospital acoustics to patient outcomes, staff performance, and satisfaction scores.

Healthcare acoustic wall panels and hospital ceiling systems address these challenges while bringing warmth to clinical environments. Wood softens the institutional feel of medical facilities, creates calming spaces for anxious patients and families, and absorbs sound that would otherwise echo off hard, hygienic surfaces. The result is a healing environment that feels intentional—not sterile.

Our sound absorption panels meet the demanding requirements of medical facility design: cleanable surfaces, Class A fire ratings, low-VOC finishes for sensitive patient populations, and sustainable healthcare interiors that support green building certifications.

Featured Project

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s Center for Advanced Pediatrics features Curvalon and Flat Veneer Panels that climb the walls and spread across the ceiling, evoking Atlanta’s tree canopy to create a calming environment for young patients and their families. The 260,000 sq. ft. outpatient center demonstrates how wood transforms clinical spaces into places of comfort.

Rulon's Expertise in Healthcare Interior Design

Every ceiling material in a patient care environment has to be documented for air quality, fire performance, and chemical content. Rulon’s systems carry Indoor Advantage™ Gold certification for low emissions, independent LBC Red List Free certification, HPD Open Standard v2.1 declarations, FSC® certification, and ASTM E84 Class A fire ratings, with documentation ready for the submittal process.

At the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, Rulon manufactured approximately 50,000 square feet of custom-grooved White Oak Aluratone, profiled to carry the exterior façade into the interior. The system was designed to be 100% accessible, using torsion springs and side-slot attachment so panels can be removed and reinstalled for maintenance. At Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s Center for Advanced Pediatrics, Curvalon and Flat Veneer Panels climb the lobby walls and spread across the ceiling, echoing the tree canopy outside.
