Panelized Accent Beams

The people at the Georgia Institute of Technology demonstrated aggressive forward thinking when they hired Bohlin Cywinski Jackson Architects to design the new Marcus Nanotechnology Research Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The newly designed building is the latest investment in the technology program at Georgia Tech.

Upon entering the center, visitors are confronted by a bold, cutting-edge corridor design. The corridor’s main focal point is comprised of 9,000 square-feet of Rulon’s Panelized Beam ceilings and walls. The overall design resembles a set from a sci-fi movie. David Murray, from Bohlin Cywinski Jackson Architects clearly succeeded in creating and emphasizing a modern, clean, scientific appearance.

Starting with the Architect’s sketches and preliminary details, Rulon International’s engineering team approached the task of transferring that vision into reality with the knowledge that they were treading in uncharted waters. A system exactly like this had never been attempted before. Extensive pre-bid input was merely a warm up to the post bid submittal process, onsite meetings and installation process.
