Ceiling systems specified for lecture halls, collaborative learning environments, student unions, and signature campus buildings — engineered for the acoustic performance, sustainability documentation, and architectural range that higher education projects require.
ASTM E84 Class A | FSC Chain of Custody | WELL v2 | Indoor Advantage Gold
A university campus presents a wider range of ceiling specification challenges than a K-12 school. A lecture hall requires documented NRC performance for speech intelligibility across a large, tiered volume. A student commons or collaborative learning pavilion needs reverberation control without the visual weight of a closed ceiling plane. A signature building — an honors college, a performing arts center, a library atrium — carries architectural expectations that standard acoustic tile cannot meet.
At the same time, higher education projects are increasingly subject to the same sustainability documentation requirements as the most demanding commercial projects. LEED v4.1 and WELL v2 certifications are now standard targets on university construction and renovation projects. Facilities teams expect HPD documentation, FSC Chain of Custody certificates, and low-VOC emissions verification as baseline submittal requirements — not supplemental requests.
Rulon Aluratone panels, linear wood ceilings, acoustic wood baffle ceilings, and Curvalon curved systems cover the full range of higher education ceiling applications. Each system carries third-party certification documentation and produces the submittal-ready materials that LEED and WELL project teams require.
Aluratone High-performance acoustic ceiling panels for lecture halls, classrooms, and corridors. Achieves NRC values suited to ANSI S12.60 compliance. Indoor Advantage Gold certified for low-VOC emissions. Precise construction for buildings with demanding designs. Certifications: ASTM E84 Class A, Indoor Advantage Gold, WELL v2
Linear Wood Ceilings Open linear wood ceiling systems for collaborative spaces, libraries, and campus buildings where acoustic performance and biophilic design are both specification requirements. FSC Chain of Custody certified. HPD v2.1 documentation available for LEED MR submittals. Certifications: FSC Chain of Custody, ASTM E84 Class A, LEED v4.1 MR
Acoustic Wood Baffle Ceilings Vertically suspended wood baffle ceilings for student unions, dining halls, recreation centers, and large multi-purpose spaces. Maximizes diffractive surface area in high-volume environments where a horizontal ceiling plane cannot control reverberation effectively. Certifications: FSC Chain of Custody, ASTM E84 Class A
Curvalon Curved wood ceiling systems for auditoriums, performing arts spaces, and architecturally distinctive campus buildings. Custom geometry with full FSC Chain of Custody and ASTM E84 Class A certification. Designed for projects where acoustic performance and architectural expression are concurrent requirements. Certifications: FSC Chain of Custody, ASTM E84 Class A

George Washington University’s LEED Platinum-certified campus building presented a specification challenge common to signature higher education projects: acoustic performance across a seven-story open interior, classrooms, offices, and a full auditorium — with a design intent that required the ceiling to be an architectural element, not just a performance system.
Rulon Aluratone and Curvalon systems were specified throughout the building. Classrooms feature acoustical wood veneered panels with cross-grain bamboo veneer aligned to the panel grooves — a detail that required the architect to visit the manufacturer and select from six mock-ups before production. Curvalon curved panels were used at wall corners and class exteriors, maintaining exact radius and panel consistency across the full building. The auditorium combines acoustical and flat veneered panels, with a diagonal crease design on panel faces that required custom R&D from the manufacturer. The project used 25,000 square feet of product and took approximately one year to install.
